One of my new she-roes, LisaJo Baker, strikes a deep chord within my being every time she posts. Today was no different with her Five-Minute Friday post on 'She.'
Go.
There was no question who my she would be. Wise beyond her years, yet so much younger and hipper than me in many ways, she is my sail, my wing girl, the beacon by which I measure my sanity on any given day.
I can text, call, leave cryptic messages in any form and she knows what and how to diffuse, calm, commiserate or get me off the teetering ledge of crazy. We can be out-of-our minds silly like we are still 10 and 15 or 15 and 20 or 20 and 25. Pfffft, we wish!
As she comes into her own as a mama and a partner, her light shines brighter as a friend and daughter.
My eyes fill with puddles, ready to spill over as I type these words on my lunch break... (but chuckling thinking about where she's stopping today because she really craves Mexican ALL THE TIME and it doesn't make her gain weight. What???) because she is like my right arm... And how we recently cried together on the phone over a story about two siblings who were separated and we couldn't bear the thought.
We swear that we are twins born 5 years apart, but you wouldn't know it from our wee years with slamming doors and hurt feelings because it's not cool to let your little sister follow you around or even less cool to talk to your big sister who is like, OLD or something.
But then fast forward and all of a sudden you're both adults and how did this happen and being a grown up is hard and we need to stick together and send each other greeting cards with little girls playing dress up in pearls or little old ladies on a park bench with pocketbooks, or 1950s women on rotary telephones with beauty shop hair-dos saying snarky things. That's us. The ones who are usually dialing the other's number at the same time.
This is the she that knows what I'm thinking before I say it, listens with an open-mind and heart but tells me what I really should hear. The one who enters a car with me for a road trip and we turn into giggling, space-headed teenagers again.
The she who gave my sons another boy cousin to grow with and continues to amaze me daily on her God-given talents as a mother. Yet still humors me by asking my opinion even though they since recalled the baby stuff I bought for Big Kid over 9 years ago.
She is my sister and best friend.
Stop.
Happy Friday all, and weekend, we see you comin' and it's a beautiful site.'
Savor every moment!
